The mark SC, alone, has been attributed to a Sheldon Cook, active in New England in the Eighteenth Century. Being a signed and dated piece of American cast iron hearthware in good condition, it achieved a strong result of $5,462, whatever its origins. The star of the sale was a fraktur cataloged as a stunning example by a very rare and elusive Southern folk artist. Attributed to the Wild Turkey artist, active 17701822 and dated 1819, made for Anna Magdelena Scherertz as her birth record, this superb example opened for bidding at $4,750.
